This Is My Motherhood: Mother's Day Inspired Writing Prompt

In honor of Mother's Day coming up on May 10th, I have decided to write a few blog post writing prompts to inspire other bloggers to write about their experiences of motherhood. If you are a dad blogger I'd like to invite you to write about your experiences with fatherhood and/or a post honoring the mothers in your life. Make sure to use the hashtags below so we can read your post!

The first writing prompt is a simple poem type format (although there is no real format, really) - let's call it a list type of format where you list the things that surround you right now that capture the stage of motherhood you are currently in. Here's mine.

You could be surrounded by baby clothes, kids toys and piles of dishes.

You could be surrounded by backpacks, homework and school books.

You could be surrounded by sports equipment, drivers permits and college applications.

You could be surrounded by your grandchildren's toys and overnight bags because they are visiting.

Wherever you are right now and wherever you usually write your blog posts, I'd like you to look around and list the things you see that remind you of where you and your children are right now.

If you are out getting coffee alone (lucky you!) you might write about what it feels like to have a much needed break. Maybe you saw the toy car or the baggie of goldfish your child left in your purse as you were reaching for you wallet.

Maybe you are in your car with a napping toddler because that is the only way you can get some peace in the afternoon (I've been there!) So maybe you'll write about the things in your car or diaper bag.

Maybe you are at work and you're pumping on your break or you can see pictures of your kids on your desk.

Maybe you're like me and you're sitting in your favorite nursing chair feeding or rocking your baby.

Be sure to list your children's ages somewhere in the post and begin and end the blog post with:

This Is My Motherhood.

DIY Mama! Homemade Halloween Costumes! Would You Like To Be Featured?

Are you a crafty mama who's having a ghoulishly good time making your child's Halloween costume?  Are you dying to share your creative side with the world?  Would you like to take a stab at having your talents displayed on My Tales From The Crib?

Alright, alright, you get the point. 

I am featuring some talented mama's who are willing to treat us all by giving up their tricks on how they made their child's costume. If this is you and you'd like to be featured on the My Tales From The Crib - DIY Mama!  Homemade Halloween Costumes (2012 segment), then submit your pics and info to me by Friday, October 26, 2012 (evening-ish) for a chance to be featured on our blog!



Here's what I'll need from you:

• A list of the stuff you bought and a list of the stuff you made.
• A brief "How To" list on the stuff you made.
• A few pictures of the costume and one with your child* wearing it. (*Optional)
• A little back story behind the costume. Who's idea was it and why?

P.S. Ladies, it DOES NOT have to be from this year!  Heck, it can even be from when YOU were a kid!  Just get the info from mom.  Or if it was me and my bro it involved tin foil, wire coat hangers, paper bags from Ralph's and permanent markers cuz...uh... my brother and I were lame. haha. Actually we had really cute costumes as kids and they were pretty much all homemade because no one really bought costumes in the 80's. At least we didn't!  I think my brother was a "soccer player" for about 3+ years in a row. All different colors from all different teams and of course he wore his cleats leaving mud and grass pods all up and down the block!  LOL!  Epic costume choice, Shaun! The neighbors loved it!  haha!

Hmmm....that could be fun...I'll have to dig up some old pics!  ;-)

Annnnnnyway... back to the blog post.

***Please note that it does not have to be this elaborate. My friend Karina, (aka Mama Tooth Fairy) is a professional. Seriously, she's insanely crafty and talented and her attention to detail will make you weep. Do not attempt a post like this at home!  I repeat, "Do not attempt a post like this at home!" 

All kidding aside, it seriously does not have to be this fancy!  It can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. Wait til you see my personal DIY Halloween Costume post. The Tooth Fairy will put me to shame for sure.

Calling All Organized Moms! Please Share Your Secrets!

The number one complaint I hear from other moms (as well as myself) is, "I can't ever get anything done!"  So I've decided to put together a list of tips to help mom's like you and me get some new moves to help us achieve some sense of order to our daily lives as mothers of young children. Some of us are better than others at achieving this goal on a daily basis and I'm well aware of my limitations, so I am looking for Organized Moms to spill the beans about how to keep everything in balance.  We're looking for your best tips and tricks to getting through the day, getting it all done and still having time left over to have a few minutes for yourself.  

What's that you say?  Time for yourself?....do I hear laughter coming from the other side of the computer screen?  

I realize this picture of "balanced mom perfection" is impossible to achieve on a daily basis (at least for me it is), so think about your most organized days and let us in on your secrets as to how you were able to pull that off!

• Do you wake up a few hours before the kids to get ready for the day?  
• Do you make several meals at once or order take-out once a week to save on prep/cooking time?  
• Do you clean and organize after the kids have gone to bed?  
• Do you hire a sitter every once in a while so you can get things done or just take a break?  
• Do you do your shopping during the weekends so hubby can stay home to watch the kids while you run errands? 
• If you work outside of the home do you run errands on your lunch break?  
• Does your husband cook, clean or share the bulk of the chores?
